Catalogue Note

Designed in the shape of a sitar, a stringed musical instrument, the present container features an elegantly curved swan at the top of its neck, which alludes to hamsa, (or white swan), the vehicle of Sarasvati, the goddess of music and the arts. The word hamsa has a further musical connotation, in that its two syllables ham and sa are considered to be the sounds of inhalation and exhalation.
