Description

  • iron
composed of russet-iron, with moulded girdles at the breech and muzzle, the muzzle flared and chiselled in the form of a tiger's head with engraved details, the breech cut with a brief inscription, formed with a short tang for fitting a tiller of shoulder-stock, and fitted with iron swivel mount

Condition

In general good condition, abrasion to surface consistent with age and use, as viewed.

Arms bearing a reference to Nagar such as the present example are particularly rare. In addition to that at Seringapatam, the town of Nagar was the site of one of the three ordnance factories (tara mandal) established by Tipu Sultan.
