Catalogue Note
The present jade cup resembles a similar model now in the Victoria & Albert Museum (inv. no. 02546(IS)) dated to the seventeenth century. Based on a Chinese model, the present cup attests to the influence of trade from the East during this period and the skill with which local craftsmen learnt to work with this imported hardstone.
