  • A Greek Terracotta Protome of Dionysos
  • Terracotta
  • Height 12 in. 30.1 cm.
the god holding an egg in his right hand, a small kantharos in his left hand, wearing a himation falling from his left shoulder, with full wavy beard and moustache, his hair bound in a fillet, surmounted by a stephane, and covered by a veil falling over his shoulders, a drilled ledge in back of the head, probably for attachment; remains of gesso and red pigment.
