  • A Greek Terracotta Group of Demeter and Persephone
  • Terracotta
  • Height 9 1/2 in. 24.1 cm.
Demeter standing with Persephone sitting on her left shoulder and clasping her daughter's arm, and wearing a chiton with double overfold, and himation; a large vent hole in the back, remains of gesso and red pigment.

Professor Hans Erlenmeyer (1900-1967) and Marie Louise Erlenmeyer, Basel, collected between 1943 and the early 1960s (Sotheby's, London, Antiquities from the Erlenmeyer Collection, July 9th, 1990, no. 80, illus.)

Condition

The head of Persephone repaired, with broad ares of restoration along the join, her left foot restored, and her nose chipped. Otherwise as shown.
