  • A Greek Terracotta Applique of Ganymede and the Eagle
  • Terracotta
  • Height 11 3/4 in. 29.9 cm.
the young shepherd borne aloft by the eagle of Zeus clinging to his back with wings outspread, and wearing an anklet, himation wrapped around his arms and falling over his back, and wreath crowning his long wavy hair, the eagle's head finely modeled; remains of pigment.

Condition

Proper left leg missing below the knee, both arms also missing at upper arm below drapery, drapery falling down proper right side of figure missing below waist, proper right foot repaired or restored, also most of proper left wing, drapery along proper left hip and leg, and tip of eagle's beak restored, incrustation remaining in areas.
