  • A Greek Black-Figured Phiale Mesomphalos
  • Glazed terracotta
  • Diameter 4 1/4 in. 10.8 cm.
the interior decorated with two sirens alternating with two grazing stags, the omphalos with dotted circle and radiating tongues below, oblique zig-zag lines below the rim.

French private collection, acquired in 1955

Condition

Repaired from two large and nine smaller fragments, joins very clean, very small drill hole possibly from material sampling on bottom of omphalos, areas of loss to glaze around outside rim, minor flaking elsewhere.
