Condition
Condition Report by Simon Parkes (3/28/13):
This painting is in beautiful condition. The canvas is unlined. The painting seems to be quite dirty. There is no abrasion or discoloration visible to the paint layer, and there is no reason why the work would not respond well to cleaning. Under ultraviolet light, the colors read slightly darker in the hats in the two standing figures in the far right, in the shirt of the crouching figure in the far right and in some of the shadowed areas around some of the figures. This dark color probably does correspond to restoration, but it does not seem that any actual damage will become visible when it is removed. However, some thinness to the original paint layer, which may be the result of the artist working quickly, may become more apparent. A few retouches may be required when the picture is cleaned, but the condition is very good nonetheless.
