Condition
Condition Report by Simon Parkes (3/28/13):
This painting is in lovely condition. It is unlined, and Henri's original inscription is still visible on the reverse. The canvas is well stretched and there do not appear to be any retouches except for a small spot in the left side of the forehead. Some of the colors show darkly under ultraviolet light, but these do not correspond to restorations. The work should be carefully cleaned and varnished, but even the thinnest colors in the brown curtain on the left, in the background and around the face are undamaged and unabraded.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Catalogue Note
According to the artist's record book, Little Irish Girl was painted on Achill Island in July, 1913 and is among the early portraits he painted on his first visit to Ireland. It was shown in a number of exhibitions during his lifetime.
We are grateful to Valerie Ann Leeds for her help with the cataloguing of this lot.
