finely woven in sedge, bracken fern root and redbud on a willow foundation, with a broad encircling zigzag band surmounted by a frieze of human figures, alternating male and female, in a dance formation, flanking a stack of three inverted triangles, the basin with a richly variegated field; attributed to Mary Dick Topino, Mrs. Britches.

Condition

Stitch loss on the rim; an old repair descending from the rim, likely a vertical break of about 4 coils deep. Minor stitch loss on the body. Surface is aged and seems to have a saturated quality but there is no evidence of conditioning or oiling of the basket.
