buillon embroidery, lettering worked in flat metallic purl.

This elaborate silk panel, inscribed with the Hebrew words B'Siman Tov (with a good sign), was evidently created for use as a cushion cover for the circumcision ceremony. It may have been employed to cover a cushion on the chair of the Prophet Elijah or it may have been used to cover the cushion upon which the infant was placed and carried into the ceremony.

Losses and fraying in some areas. A few scattered small holes, a 2 in. vertical split in the lower right quadrant.
