Catalogue Note

The inscription translated reads: "For the commandment is a lamp, and the Torah is light (Proverbs 6:23)."

A similar lamp is in the collection of the Jewish Museum New York, see Susan Braunstein, Five Centuries of Hannukkah Lamps from the Jewish Museum, 2004, no. 325, p. 274, catalogued as Italian, 19th century.  She notes the combination of Christian medieval rose window and Islamic horseshoe arch colonnade with origin in 14th or 15th century Italy, France or Spain.  She notes five similar examples in museum collections and regards most of this type to date from the late 19th century.
