vase-shaped octagonal bowl chased with strapwork below Hebrew inscriptions, on conforming baluster stem and foot.

Condition

Lead solder repair at top and base of stem - otherwise good condition, gilding faded.

Catalogue Note

The inscription translated reads: "Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy" (Exodus 20:8) and "Observe the Sabbath day to keep it Holy (Deuteronomy 5:12) in the year [5]496 (1736)."

Bartholomäus Heuglin, son of silversmith Johann Erhard I Heuglin, was born 1701, became master in 1730 and died in 1740.  Seling lists religious items made by him; see Die Kunst der Augsburger Goldschmiede 1529-1868, no. 2225, p. 355.
