Condition

Overall in general good condition. The decoration has been refreshed; the entire surface has an old varnish that gives it an attractive sheen. There are small losses to raised gilding to the top; the legs have the surface dry and several areas with flaking and losses, most of which have now been repainted but that would improve with professional conservation. Handles probably replaced. Marks and scratches consistent with age and use. The 18th century needlework playing surface is worked in polychrome silks on a fine canvas, depicting items such as cards, coins, a fan, small basket and scattered small fish, with an outer border of strawberry trails on ivory coloured ground. dates from the 18th century with some repairs. There are repairs and minor losses along the join where folded, and an oval shaped area of restoration to the green ground towards the centre. There are two small dark marks on almost opposite sides of the ivory outer band. Overall stable condition with charming details and balanced colour.
