Condition
Overall excellent original condition. The gold of the ring with a more brilliant hue than what is shown in the catalogue photograph. Please note the ring is shown in the catalogue illustration slightly larger than actual size. This lot is being sold with an original red jewelry box marked Ettore Sottsass and with producers firm. This ring is a highly sculptural work showing the artists deep appreciation of line and form. A rare example of this form to appear on the market executed in gold.

Catalogue Note
INTRODUCTION:
Ettore Sottsass began designing jewelry in the 1960s, with many pieces designed specifically for his first wife Nanda. Produced by Walter de Mario in Milan, these examples represent Sottsass’s intention to design objects as “catalysts of perception” that provoke dynamic responses from the viewer as well as the wearer. The use of gold and designs reminiscent of ancient ethnic adornments are heightened by rhythmic geometric forms.
FOOTNOTE:
An example of this ring is in the collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
