Condition
Overall good condition. With scattered surface scratches and discoloration to the upholstery throughout consistent with age and use as seen in the catalogue illustration. The green leather seat presents with scratches, areas discolorations and losses to the treated surface of the leather, which can be seen in the catalogue illustration. With some losses to the piping around the edges of the seat, concentrated to the proper right lower edge and both front corners. With three darker linear discolorations to the front stretcher of the seat, the largest measuring approximately 3 inches across in the center of the front of the seat. With an area extending approximately three inches to the piping along the proper right side of the chair seat with appears to be an old restoration to stabilize the piping, which is hard to the touch. With two very minor stains adjacent that appear the result of the restoration.
The seatback with some areas of surface dirt and light discolorations localized around the corners. The reverse seatback with some areas of loss to the piping at the top and one small loss to the leather in the center of the top of the seatback (measuring less than a ¼ inch), which is not visible from the front of the chair. The brass tacks with minor surface soiling consistent with natural aging of the material and some evidence of small areas of discoloration to the leather directly adjacent to the brass tacks.
The wooden frame in overall good condition with minor nicks, dings, minor losses to finish and scratches throughout and some rubbing to finish the corners, consistent with age and use. These can be seen in the catalogue illustration. The frame with evidence of some possible light restoration to the finish that was most likely conducted closer to the time of the chair's original production, which are partially visible in the catalogue illustration. The proper left portion of the frame above the armrest with a seam lines visible, measuring approximately 1 ¼ x 2 ½ inches that appear inherent in the design. With a small edge loss to the proper right top portion of the curved wood frame adjacent to the seatback measuring ¼ inch. With some minor seam separations occurring on the proper right and left front joints connecting the leg to the stretcher.
The walnut presents in a richer tone than shown in the catalogue illustration. A fine example of the design with the original leather and compelling planar construction.
