  • Florence Knoll
  • Low Table from the Alcoa Building, 425 Sixth Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • walnut, East Indian rosewood and aluminum
top designed by George Nakashima

Condition

Overall very good condition. A unique adaptation of a model for this commission with the feet replaced with aluminum for the Alcoa office headquarters. The top is executed by George Nakashima who was working with Knoll at the time and the present example is one of the few known collaborations between Knoll and Nakashima. The edge of the table is lined with ten signature butterfly keys executed in rosewood. With some light surface scratches and edge nicks to the wood surfaces consistent with age and gentle handling. With one larger surface scratch measuring approximately 7 inches in length. The aluminum legs are in very good condition with scattered nicks, dings and light surface scratches throughout consistent with age and gentle handling. The walnut top presents with highly saturated figuring and with artistic placement of each board displaying vivid sap lines. A rare opportunity to acquire a specially commissioned work by the Knoll firm and Nakashima. Please note the measurements of this lot are: Height: 19 ½ inches Width: 30 inches Depth: 29 ¾ inches
