Description
- Gerrit Thomas Rietveld
- A Rare Wall Light from the "Vijverhof" Residence, Midden Duin en Daalseweg 27, Bloemendaal, The Netherlands
- chromium-plated steel and sand-blasted glass
Literature
Marijke Küper and Ida van Zijl, Gerrit Th. Rietveld: The Complete Works, Utrecht, 1992, p. 146 (for a related wall light in the living room of the "Vijverhof" Residence)
Condition
Overall very good condition. With some minor surface scratches, rubbing and pitting to the chromium-plated metal. The metal frame with some minor bends at the corners where the plate attaches. Some minor, scattered losses to the plating at the edges of the metal frame. The milk glass presents with a few very minor imperfections and air bubbles. These are minute and do not detract from the overall smoothness of the glass. The mounting plate with some oxidation to the interior and is fitted with a single socket. This work is an incredibly rare design by Rietveld to appear on the auction market and shows his characteristic approach to design throughout.
