Condition
Overall very good condition. The chafing dish appears to retain all the original elements and shows evidence of very gentle use. The chafing dish is comprised of an outer bowl, inner bowl with handles, cover, stand, oil font and burner element with snuffer. The plated surface overall with minor nicks, scratches, isolated pitting and light rubbing consistent with age and gentle use. The chafing dish presents with minor areas of rubbing and minor losses to the plated surface, all in areas consistent with handling as use. With localized rubbing to plating to the base adjacent to the burner element, the top surface of the font adjacent to the burner (not visible when the burner is placed) and the underside edge of the outer bowl (not visible once the bowl is righted) and exterior of the outer bowl. There is an isolated circular area of plating losses and associated rubbing measuring ΒΌ inch in diameter to the underside of the inner bowl.
The knob of the cover with areas of minor abrasions, scratches and dings, all likely the result of use and handing. The knob was recently professionally re-attached by a leading silver restorer. The burner element shows evidence of very minor use, and associated discoloration and soiling to the interior of the snuffer. The burner retains a small portion of cord. The surface of the cover of the chafing dish presents with a brighter silver than the rest of the elements and has likely been more recently cleaned. The surfaces throughout with minor tarnish and marks from handling easily removed with a gentle polish. The cover of the chafing dish is engraved monogram. A rare design by Guild.
