Condition

Overall in very good original condition. The sculpture presents with a few minor areas of surface dirt concentrated to the recessed portions of the design and some scattered wear to the gilding at the high points of the sculpture. With some traces of minor oxidation to the interior of the proper left sleeve and at figure's waistband. This is a wonderful and highly sculptural work when viewed in person.

Catalogue Note

This figure and that of the following lot were part of a group of ten Scarf Dancers based on the gestures of Loïe Fuller and known as "Le Jeu de l'Echarpe."  They were first exhibited by Léonard in plaster maquette in 1897.  Originally designed as a projected decoration for the Foyer de la Danse at the Paris Opéra, they were executed in bisque porcelain at the Sèvres Manufactory before being cast in bronze in 1901.
