Condition
Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 8 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. The shade with beautiful “pencil” leading rendered in extremely fine and artistic lines, and the shade leading displays a particularly deep and rich russet brown patina with green highlights. The shade has a slightly loose fit to the shade arms on the base, with a small gap (1/4 inch) between the outer perimeter of the shade and scrolled ends of the shade arms. The patinated bronze surfaces of the base display a deep and rich brown patina. The bronze surfaces with some occasional surface scratches, surface abrasions and rubbing to the patina (most notably to the high points of the decoration) consistent with age and use. The recessed contours of the applied coil decoration with light surface soiling. The shade arms with light surface wear and rubbing to the patina particularly at the end terminals from continued surface contact over the years with the shade. All of the sockets and paddle switches appear to be original and undisturbed, and the sockets retain their original bakelite insulators. One socket casing with an old piece of paper tape on the exterior. One of the tiny screws (there are six screws total) on the underside of the base which secures the base plate is presently lacking (the base plate however is entirely stable). With period finial in very good condition. A superb example of the model distinguished by its highly artistic glass selection. Each glass tile was thoughtfully selected and displays great artistic nuance and vigorous mottling, imparting the shade with strong visual interest and depth. The background glass is a strongly mottled cobalt blue and slightly less purple than seen in the catalogue illustration.
