Catalogue Note

Edward Moulthrop began turning wood at the age of 15, and continued through his career to pioneer monumental turned wood expressions.  Utilizing local wood from the Southern United States, Moulthrop's intricate designs harnessed and celebrated the natural qualities of the wood selected.   Using trademark glazes and chemical stablizers, Moulthrop was able to work on a monumental scale unattainable by many other artists. The present lot, one of the largest ever to appear at auction, reveals the artist's fundamental commitment to express the natural beauty of the wood in an elegant and minimalist form.
