Description

  • Robyn Horn
  • "Winged Redwood"
  • carved redwood burl

Provenance

Connell Gallery, Atlanta, GA
Acquired from the above by the present owner, 1993

Condition

Overall very good original condition. The nature of the design of this work has left some of the edges unfinished and in original condition. Therefore they are slightly uneven to the touch and present with some minor possible chips and edge losses. The burled wood is superb in this example with great presence when viewed in person. There is a flattened portion which serves as an underbase. An expressive form with great scale. The turned element to the central portion with some surface dirt and is articulated in a manner where the detailed hand of the artist is evident in the striation. A wonderful detail that adds great depth to the piece. The lighter area of coloration to the lower edge of the work, as seen in the catalogue illustration, is an inherent characteristic of the wood.
