Condition
Overall in very good condition. This is an assembled set and therefore the patination, coloration, and abalone inlays differ slightly in each piece. The pieces in this set retain varying amounts of the original polychrome finish. The gilt bronze surfaces throughout show gentle rubbing and light surface soiling in some of the recessed contours consistent with age and use. With some concentrated minor areas of discoloration and a few occasional traces of surface oxidation. A few of the abalone inlays are presently raised and sitting slightly off center, suggesting they may have been re-set or possibly replaced. Five pieces in the desk set have possibly been re-gilt: the inkstand, stamp box, double-sided letter rack and the two bookends. The notepad is presently fitted with a full day calendar for 1913. The calendar frame with period glass front. The clock has not been inspected, and Sothebys does not guarantee its functionality. The rectangular box with wooden panels to the interior of the base and lid, which is presently dry and with scattered stains.
