Description

  • George Nakashima
  • "Conoid" Cushion Chair
  • American black walnut, hickory and fabric upholstery

Provenance

Acquired directly from the artist
Thence by descent to the present owners

Condition

Overall in very good original condition. The upholstered cushion shown in the catalogue illustration is later, and with no evidence of use. The wooden frame of the chair with minor edges nicks, dings and occasional surface scratches consistent with age and gentle use. With a minor chip to the front stretcher. With more concentrated surface scratches and a few scattered edge nicks to the feet of the chair expected with use. The stays on this model are handmade and therefore vary slightly, which is inherent in the production and consistent for the model. The seat of the chair retains the original cotton webbing. A very nice example of model.
