Condition

There is a 1-inch square repaired shallow chip to the bottom of the stem, where it sits into the base and a surrounding area of abrasion to the gilding; the original damage may have been covered by restoration at one point, which has now been removed. There is a small chip to the edge of one jewelled strap about halfway down the side. Otherwise in generally good condition.

Catalogue Note

A pair of black-ground vases of the same shape, part of a garniture decorated with colorful flower arrangements, is illustrated by Erich Köllmann and Margarete Jarchow in Berliner Porzellan II, p. 586, cat. no. 553, where the authors indicate its being modelled by Schinkel in 1823. A similar vase was sold at Christie's London, September 27, 2011, lot 48.
