Dörft, signed, on either side of the shield-shaped body with 'Capitulation of Madrid' after Antoine Jean Gros or 'Napoleon Signing his Abdication at Fontainebleau' after François Bouchot, with a green velvet-covered oval base affixed with a silver plaque addressed to the constitutional president of Mexico, Pascual Ortiz Rubio, pseudo shield mark in blue, printed Austria Vienna mark, inscribed titles. 4 pieces.

Where the vase is connected to the base, there is some regilding and plaster-filled areas, possibly to stabilize the bolted vase and the base. Otherwise in generally good condition.

Catalogue Note

Pascual Ortiz Rubio served as the Constitutional President of United Mexican States between 1930 and 1932, to whom this vase was most likely presented as a diplomatic gift in Chapultepec, Mexico, on May 17, 1930. The inscription on the plaque reads: "AFECTO GRATITUD/ AL C. PRESIDENTE DE LA REPUBLICA/ ING. PASCUAL ORTIZ RUBIO/ LA SRIA PARTICULAR Y SUS DEPENDENCIAS/ CHAPULTEPEC, 17-V-1930.'
