Catalogue Note
The present work's inscription likely reads Venedig suggesting Ciardi intended the work for sale in Germany. A work titled Kanal in Venedig was exhibited at the VII Internationale Kunstausstellung in Munich, 1901 (no. 455). A composition which captures the same view but from a slightly different angle is illustrated in Nico Stringa, Guglielmo Ciardi, catalogo generale dei dipinti, Treviso, 2007, p. 247, no. 257.
