  • Vellum
a large leaf, 600mm. by 405mm., with a large initial 'd' (opening "Dignus es domine ..." the responsory for Easter Day), 90mm. by 75mm., with Christ seated receiving an open book from two angels, the initial formed of coloured acanthus-leaves, which extend into the border on three sides, enclosing a central roundel in the bas-de-page (with a bearded prophet seated and holding another open book), 5 lines of text in brown ink in a late gothic hand with music on a 4-line red stave, edges of 4 lines of tiny instructions to illuminator, early folio number "59" and nineteenth-century "61" on verso, modern pencil "No.20" on recto, some cockling and slight creasing and rubbing to base (with damage to border and roundel), vertical edge of border trimmed when cut from volume, gold scuffed in places and slight flaking to face of one angel, else good condition

Catalogue Note

From the same volume as the previous two leaves.  The text is from Revelations 5:9, where angels sing 'Thou art worthy, o Lord, to receive the book and to open the seals thereof'.
