This work relates entirely to the Persian Gulf and Red Sea regions and includes chapters on Aden, Perim, Jeddah, Hormuz and Bandar Abbas, Muscat, Bahrein, Baghdad, Basra and other locations in the Perisan Gulf. According to the preface, the places described were visited repeatedly by the author and well-known to him and he predicts that "the Persian Gulf and the Arabian littoral will awake from the long sleep of ages, and run a fresh course of commercial greatness".
