Catalogue Note
A rare panorama of Nizhny-Novgorod, showing the vast expanse of the city stretching along the river Volga, which by the mid-nineteenth century had firmly established itself as the trade capital of the Russian Empire. Andrey Karelin (1837-1906), a graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, lived in Nizhny Novgorod and worked as a professional art and landscape photographer.
