Hector Macdonald Buchanan of Ross Priory, Scotland, manuscript ex libris, signed and dated 1817 on preliminary blank. Sir Walter Scott was a close friend of Buchanan and a frequent visitor to Ross Priory

Catalogue Note

An exceptional copy, uncut and in the original boards. "An official account of the voyage, interspersed with ornithological and other zoological notes" (Zimmer). Portlock, who sailed with Captain Cook on his last voyage, led this fur-trading expedition for the King George's Sound company. His ships touched at the Falkland and Hawaiian islands, as well as many points along the west coast of America. (See lot 137 for George Dixon's account of the same voyage).
