Catalogue Note
One of only three known copies and the only one known on vellum of this important wall-map of the Netherlands, one of the earliest and most ambitious productions of Willem Jansz. Blaeu, one of the greatest of all Dutch mapmakers and publishers.
The map, which incorporates the arms of each of the Seventeen Provinces and a fine allegorical cartouche with text, is flanked by twenty finely observed vignettes of principal cities, notably Amsterdam and Antwerp.
