Catalogue Note

The first edition of this work, published in 1873, was limited to 500 copies. This second edition, limited to 1,000 copies, was greatly revised and expanded with new plates drawn by Keulemans. It includes 176 species. The supplement adds several more to this list together with much detailed information respecting most of the species already described. It also includes descriptions of additional material in sections on the passing of the forest, vanishing bird species and the author's country sanctuary at Lake Papaitonga.
