A fine collection of 57 views of Java by Woodbury and Page, mostly of Batavia (Jakarta) and Semarang, including several of the Chinese quarters, together with views of the ruins of Borobudur, the famous Buddhist site constructed in central Java in c.800AD. Walter Bently Woodbury and James Page formed a partnership in 1857 that was to become the most famous and important firm working in Batavia and covering most of Java during the nineteenth century. With 24 photographs of Suez, including a portrait of Ferdinand Lesseps and a plan of the Suez canal, mostly by Hippolyte Arnoux.
