being an endorsement of a letter by the music publisher Jacques-Léopold Heugel soliciting the Emperor's approval, written on a blank page of Heugel's letter; Rossini attests to M J.L. Heugel's worthiness of all consideration for the decoration requested, expressing in advance his personal gratitude to his Majesty, requesting him to acknowledge this respectful homage ("Personellement, Sire, j'ose exprimer à l'avance toute ma reconnaissance à votre majesté, en la priant de daigner agréer le respectueux homage") 

4 pages, 4to (31.5 x 21.5cms), also signed and dated by Heugel ("J.L. Heugel...Paris 28 mai 1862"), bearing a red stamp on the top left-hand corner of the first page, "Cabinet de l'Empereur, Arrivée le 12 Aout", small tears along both ends of the central fold
