Condition

The canvas has been relined. UV light reveals some strokes of old retouching visible under the varnish in the black horse's neck. There are some areas of thinness in the paint surface, notably in the signature, and some localised craquelure in the rear of the white horse. The varnish of the work has yellowed somewhat with age. Held in a gold-painted wood and plaster frame.
