Catalogue Note
Charles Mellier & Co were among the very best late 19th century cabinet makers. An Anglo-French company whose foothold as purveyors of high quality furniture began with their acquistion of the French company Monbro in 1868. They often worked in collaboration with architect designers such as Romaine-Walker, with whom they re-fitted the Grosvenor Street residence of Henry Duveen (brother of art dealer Lord Duveen of Millbank).
