  • A jewelled gold and enamel table cigarette box
  • signed 'CARTIER' and faintly numbered: 3231
  • Gold, sapphires and diamonds
  • 18.2cm. 7¼in. long
the lid with Mughal style motifs set with sapphires and diamonds within narrow white enamel borders, the thumbpiece further set with diamonds

The heiress, Edna Woolworth, first wife of Franklyn Laws Hutton (1877-1940) and mother of the celebrated socialite Barbara Woolworth Hutton, died in 1917. Franklyn Hutton's second marriage, in March 1926, was to a divorcee, Irene Curley Bodde.

Condition

Generally very good order. The base has surface wear and scratching. The hinge has been repaired. The jewelled surfaces would benefit from professional cleaning.
