Catalogue Note

Magnificent chandeliers such as the present example were very popular in Genoa and Piedmont in the 18th century and were often surmounted by a crown. There are numerous examples of these in Royal Piedmontese residences. Chandeliers of comparable design were already fashionable in the 17th century and can be seen in a print of an interior in The Hague in 1660, illustrated by Peter Thornton, Seventeenth Century Interior Decoration in England, France and Holland, U.K., 1978, pl. 257, p. 270.
