Catalogue Note

Comparative Literature:
Roberto Antonetto, Il Mobile Piemontese nel Settecento, Vol. II, Turin, 2010,  illustrates various examples of these lacquered tray-topped and arte povera decorated centre tables on hoof feet, pp. 235-238.

An identical example, possibly the above, is illustrated in Carlo Steiner, Mobili e Ambienti Italiani, Vol.II, ed. Bramante, Milan, 1963, p.302 (from the Collection of Count Franco Cella Bruni). The pair to it is presently recorded in a private Italian collection.

A related Piedmontese table lacquered in green, yellow and blue also depicting chinoiserie scenes in arte povera, was sold from the estate of the late Giuseppe Rossi, in these Rooms, Vol. I, 10th March 1999, lot 28 (£70,000).
