Description

  • Gilt bronze, Swietenia Mahogany
  • 78cm. high, 136cm. wide, 74.5cm. deep; 2ft. 6¾in., 4ft. 5½in., 2ft. 5¼in.
with a serpentine top inset with a tooled leather writing surface above three serpentine frieze drawers opposing dummy drawers on cabriole legs, the knees carved with rocaille and scrolls, on hoof feet, with later gilt-bronze mounts throughout; with various ink inscribed paper labels

Condition

In overall good conserved condition. Evidence of previous handles. Very attractive patina. Old minor marks, chips and scratches commensurate with age and normal usage. There is some minor damage to the top of the central drawer where it appears to have been forced. There are minor restorations to the top where the construction cracks at the angles have been filled. Inside the carcass below each drawer and also the underside of each end drawer there is evidence of possibly a previous mechanism.
