Description

  • Kinngwood and Ivory
  • 80cm. high, 81cm. wide, 57cm. deep; 2ft. 7½in., 2ft. 7¾in., 1ft. 10½in.
with a reversible top enclosing a well fitted with a drawer in the  frieze, on cabriole legs, the underside stamped WALTER twice and JME, the drawer bearing the stamp Migeon twice and JME three times

Condition

Top slightly warped and leather faded and uneven. Old minor marks, chips and scratches and slight lifting and splits in veneer. Cracks and warping in chessboard side. The tric trac interior has cracks in ebony and ivory and minor losses to veener and pieces off but present which can easily be restored. There are 15 ivory and stained green counters. Patches and restorations to veneer which is dry looking and would benefit from a repolish according to taste.

Catalogue Note

The ébéniste Walter worked from his shop on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine for the ébéniste François Mondon (1694-1770) and the marchand-ébéniste Pierre Migeon (1701-58), who supplied Madame de Pompadour.
