Description

  • Applique from a processional cross with an Evangelist
  • gilt bronze and copper on a velvet covered wood base

  • Italian, probably Tuscan, 15th/ 16th century
with an old label inscribed in pen: 27

Condition

Overall the condition of the applique is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few nicks and scratches, including to the reverse. There is some wear to the gilding. There are a few small original casting lacunae, including to between the folds of the drapery. There appears to be a small dent to the figure's nose and there are small dents to the edges of the mount. There are five small mount holes, one with a surviving pin.
