Catalogue Note

The eagle may be from the stemma of the Montefeltro family, an eminent aristocrat Italian family who governed the duchy of Urbino from the 12th to the 16th century.

Two similar examples without any stemma are in the Louvre, see Jeanne Giacomotti, Catalogue des majoliques des musées nationaux, Paris, 1974, nos. 1284 and 1285.
