This dish is to be compared with the dish painted "a paesini e figure a smalto"in the Museo d'Arti Applicate, Castello Sforzesco, Milan, which depicts Brighella fighting with two girls, see Museo d'Arti Applicate, Milano, 2001, Vol.II,n.426, P.458.
G.Biscontini Ugolini (in Maiolica e Incisione, exhibition catalogue, Milan, 1992, N.73) identified the iconographic source with the drawing by Johann Jakob Schübler illustrating the libretto of the opera "The kidnap of Isabel , daughter of Pantalone", engraved by J.B.Probst and published in Augsburg in 1727.
