wearing a large hat and long cloak,  his right hand raised to shield his eyes, holding with his left hand the edge of the cloth tucked into his waist (some restoration)

Condition

left hand and cloth replaced in plaster repaired by Gabriella Barilla herself, many firing faults; please note that some of the plaster drapery has now broken off.

The figure is after Audran's engraving Dottor Balanzone, included in his Oeuvre gravée, published in Paris in 1726, after the drawing of the Dottore by Antoine Watteau, circa 1705. Three other models are known, one in the Museo della Scala, Milan ; a painted model in the Museo Correale, Sorrento and another one in the British Museum, London
