Catalogue Note
Simon Feilner created a series of fifteen Commedia dell'Arte figures, inspired by the engravings of Johann Jacob Wolrab, Nuremberg, circa 1720. The series is very similar to that modelled in the 1750s at Höchst by Johann Christoph Ludwig von Lücke, see lot 160. Only seven examples of Dottore are known, see Morley-Fletcher, Early European Porcelain and Faience as Collected by Kiyi and Edward Pfleuger, I, pp. 112-45.
