Catalogue Note
The Würzburg factory, which existed only for five years, made two series of Commedia dell'Arte, one on flat bases, the other on raised rectangular bases like the present lot. The modeller Ferdinand Tietz made drawings of some figures which are almost indistinguishable from the actual figures. The drawing of the present model is entitled Pantalone but the decoration of the present may suggest a figure of Isabella dressed as Pantalone, see detail.
