Catalogue Note

This figure was inspired by Joullain's engraving Pantalon Ancien and first formed part of the group entitled Pantalon and an actress, see lot 123. No less than fourteen figures of this model of Pantalone are listed in the "Conditorei" (pantry) inventory  of Schloss Pförten, the residence of Count Heinrich von Brühl (1700-1763).
